Craft Brewhouse
A craft brewhouse sized in batches rather than hectolitres, so a taproom brewery can start small and add vessels without replacing the platform.

Choosing a vessel count
A two-vessel system (mash/lauter tun plus kettle/whirlpool) is the lowest-cost entry and suits two to three brews per day. A three-vessel system separates the whirlpool so kettle turnaround does not wait, and a four-vessel system adds a dedicated mash tun so a brew day can reach five or six turns. Each added vessel buys throughput, not quality.
Electric versus steam heating
Electric heating removes the boiler, flue and permit from the project, which is why it dominates under 2,000 L. Steam heats faster and gives finer control at higher volume, but needs a boiler room and annual inspection. The crossover in most markets sits around 2,000-2,500 L per batch.
Planning the platform for expansion
The mash/lauter tun and kettle determine the maximum batch size, so specify those one size above today's need. Fermenters, HLT and packaging can be added later on the same brewhouse without re-piping the process core.
Typical Applications
- Taproom breweries — A 1,000 L two-vessel system covers a taproom plus limited self-distribution for the first 12-18 months.
- Brewpubs upsizing from pilot — Moving from a 500 L pilot to a 2,000 L production brewhouse keeps the same recipes and process steps.
- Contact brewing for local brands — A three-vessel 2,000 L system supports contract batches without tying the kettle up between recipes.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many fermenters do I need?
Roughly one fermenter per weekly brew plus one or two for seasonal or sour beers, so packaging never waits on an empty tank.
Can I add a canning line later?
Yes. Keep bright beer tank outlet height and CIP routing compatible with a future filler and the packaging line connects without rework.
What utilities does a 1,000 L system need?
About 45 kW electrical, 1.5 t/h steam equivalent if steam heated, and 3-4 m3/h of treated water during a brew.
