KIWL 5 Ton Brewhouse

A brewhouse sized in tonnes of grist rather than litres of wort, which is how regional breweries plan capacity when recipes vary in gravity.

Why tonnage is the honest unit

A 5,000 L batch at 12 degrees Plato uses about 1.2 t of grist, but the same kettle at 18 degrees Plato uses about 1.8 t. Sizing by grist tonnage tells you what the mash tun and lauter tun must physically handle, which is the real constraint on high-gravity brewing.

High-gravity operation

Running at 18-20 degrees Plato and diluting downstream increases brewhouse output by 30-40 percent on the same vessels. The mash tun must be sized for the grist load, not the wort volume, or the plant will not reach that output.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 ton the same as 5,000 L?

Approximately, at 12 degrees Plato. At higher gravity the same grist load yields more wort, which is the basis for high-gravity brewing.

What grist mill matches it?

A 2-3 t/h mill with a grist case holding one full batch, so milling does not gate the brew day.

What is included with the 5 configuration?

The supply covers the 5 set, interconnecting sanitary piping, the control panel and CIP routing, with Steam 1.6 t/h as specified. Cellar tanks, packaging and building works are separate scope, so the plant can be sized to your own distribution plan rather than a fixed package.
